South Africa

Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness Academy was founded by Sensei Chris Narainsamy (5th dan) in 2005.

Sensei Chris has many years’ experience in martial arts and associated disciplines.
The club was previously affiliated to Shotokan Karate International South Africa (SKISA) under Chief Instructor Sonny Pillay – based in Durban.
The club has at present approximately 40 members. We encourage parents to join in the training with their children and at present have a number of families who train together – including Sensei Chris’s grandson!
The club’s main Dojo is at the Box Fit Gym in Carlswald, Midrand.

Although not competitive, Kaizen has produced a number of excellent Karateka, all of whom we are very proud.
Since 2007 Kaizen has also been a part of the highly prestigious Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls at which Karate as well as Yoga is taught by Sensei Chris.

The academy has produced a number of black belts and we are extremely proud of the achievements of these girls, all of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The focus of the club is on top quality traditional Shotokan Karate in the style of Kancho Kanazawa.

Sensei Chris remains our chief instructor, assisted by Sensei Dave Morgan (3rd dan). Club seniors are Rabin Naidoo (2nd dan), Avashni Reddy (2nd dan), Thasvir Narainsamy (2nd dan), Vihav Singh (2nd dan) and Gina Proxenos (1st dan).
